Dear Jaakov,

After phoning you just now, it suddenly occurred to me that I had seen a general drinking water quality testing facility on the Health Department's website a few years ago. It's costly but you might still be interested. Their lab at Lidcombe is NATA accredited to test lead in food residues, agricultural products, blood, serum, urine, water, children's toys and from buildings but they obviously are accredited to test a lot of other things too. Samples can be posted to Division of Analytical Laboratories (DAL), PO Box 162 Lidcombe NSW 2141, but must be accompanied by a cheque if you are a new customer. See NSW Health / DAL Sampling Programs which is written for Water Authorities involved in regular monitoring of mains water quality etc but which also has a section on Private Samples which states "Samples in this category are submitted on a fee for service basis." Reading the pdf will give you some idea of the plethora of types of tests available to determine drinking water quality and tell you about the paperwork which must accompany the numbered sample in the post.
