QUESTION: Could lead poisoning cause Osteonecrosis? 06 Oct 2005, USA Could you tell me if lead poisoning can cause Avascular Necrosis? I have been diagnosed with AN and the Drs. have no idea what caused it. I had lead poisoning about 10 yrs ago, as a result of dealing with petroleum products while in the US Army. So, could the lead poisoning cause Osteonecrosis? Thank you, Charles Amos |

ANSWER: 07 Oct 2005 Hi Charles, With regards to your answers about lead poisoning - I haven't found any "supporting evidence" to claim that lead poisoning causes Avascular Necrosis however I did find an article relating to Osteonecrosis.
Please keep in mind that this is only a medical journal and there still
could be errors in the research. I would highly recommend you check with your
G.P or a specialist about lead poisoning- as soon as possible. Update 2010: Knee osteonecrosis due to lead poisoning: case report and review of the literature. [Possible mechanisms of the development of osteopaties in patients with chronic lead poisoning] also see Health Impacts of Lead Poisoning |
