Dear Kellie, the Material Safety Data Sheet - Chemical Grade Lead - Corroding Grade Lead - MSDS 9.5 by Fry Technology gives the following handling precautions: "Lead is regulated under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1025. No food or drink should be allowed where these products are handled. Personnel must wash thoroughly after handling the metal before drinking, eating or smoking." Apart from that I would add that gloves should be worn and all the safety precautions for proper weight lifting and working on roofs and ladders should be followed. You should take down the flashing without cutting it and if it is breaking apart, take particular care to collect all the pieces onto plastic sheeting and wrap it in plastic for transporting. Clean up any debris with a sugar soap solution in a bucket and disposable rags. Phone any of the three scrap metal dealers listed in the Yellow Pages in Melbourne to organise for the flashing to be recycled:
Yours Sincerely |
