This Sunday, Marsha Stejskal representing the group Poisoned Rosebery Residents will speak about the serious consequences her group of residents are facing in not being relocated to homes that are free from toxic sludge.

Marsha Stejskal will outline major flaws and omissions in the Final Report - Investigation Into Concerns Regarding Seepage Water in Rosebery Locality 2008/9.

“The conduct of the investigation contains serious omissions in relation to adequate testing for the source of the contamination,”

“The Report has ignored the fact that the Government’s own classification of contaminated soil in the Information Bulletin No 105 defines soil contaminated with lead as having 3000mg/kg – one resident’s soil has 4,590mg/kg,”

“Four major omissions in the Investigation were:

  • the lack of ANY hydrological testing

  • failure to test the area above the residents homes where a major ventilation shaft at the mine emitted large clouds of black dust over many years which settled onto the properties where the affected residents reside

  • failure to conduct any roof/wall cavity and underfloor testing

  • The report has failed to address the synergistic effects on residents health from heavy metal contamination,”

“Additionally the Government has attempted to hide the fact that it has already set precedent by the relocation of the Oates family from Gormanston in February 2001,” concluded Marsha.
