Standard Demolition Condition

A Lead / Asbestos Management Work Plan shall be prepared in accordance with AS2601-2001 Demolition of structures by a person with suitable expertise and experience and submitted to Council for approval.

The Work plan must include but not limited to the identification of any hazardous materials, including surfaces coated with lead paint, method of demolition, the precautions to be employed to minimise any dust nuisance and the disposal methods for hazardous materials.

City of Botany Bay Council (and several other Councils in Sydney) seem to have devised the following standard demolition condition on old buildings in response to a neighbour’s submission which began: “As you are aware, my son and myself were lead poisoned from ceiling dust when we demolished walls and ceilings in our home…”
