ANSWER: 24 Oct 2005

Hi Allan,

With regards to your question about where you apply for a painter licence in Surfers Paradise. This link provides you with most of the details in obtaining a painter's license.

The Master Painters Association provides a one stop shop to assist tradespeople gain their technical qualifications through recognition of prior learning (RPL). Also provide Business Management Courses, followed by assistance with the Building Services Authority Licensing process.

To become a painter and decorator you usually have to complete an apprenticeship in painting and decorating. Entry requirements may vary, but employers generally require Year 10.

Training is usually both on and off the job. The off-the-job training is provided through Registered Training Organisations.

To undergo a Skills Assessment you must have been working within the Painting and Decorating Industry for a minimum of 5 to 6 years FULL TIME.

A Skills Assessment (RPL) is an assessment process that matches the skills and knowledge you've gained through’ formal’ education and training or through 'informal' learning such as work or life experience to the Australian industry standards for your trade Certificate.

A Skills Assessment happens in a variety of ways. We need evidence from you that shows us how you meet industry standards for your trade. Evidence can be drawn from different sources.
