QUESTION: Do I really need to take all the elaborate lead-safe precautions when re-painting? 31 Jul 2004, Western Australia

I have an old tin trunk too old to have lead free paint. I would like to strip it or at least sand down some of the rust before repainting but have been told I shouldn't. As I am already 56 yo and there are no young children here I wondered if it was really necessary to take all the elaborate precautions. I would work outside. what do you advise?

Catherine
