About The LEAD Group and Lead Advisory Service (NSW)

The Lead Advisory Service of NSW (LAS NSW) (previously called NSW Community Lead Advisory Service) is managed by The LEAD Group Incorporated and is a project funded (since July 1997) by the NSW Government (previously funded by NSW EPA, June 1996 to June 1997) which provides education and advice to parents and the general public on lead issues. LAS NSW is funded by the Lead Reference Centre, which is itself funded by six NSW Government departments, being NSW EPA, Health Department, WorkCover Authority, Works and Services, Roads and Traffic Authority, and Department of Housing. (Please compare The LEAD Group’s Purpose with the Objectives of LAS (NSW), below:)

The LEAD Group’s Purpose:

  • To eliminate lead poisoning in Australia, and to protect the environment from lead.

  • To provide assistance to people affected by lead poisoning.

  • To empower people to contribute to the purpose and make a difference, and thus extend our influence beyond the resources of The LEAD Group.

  • To document the achievements and experience of The LEAD Group as a model of a community action group.

  • To be abundantly and continuously funded to achieve this purpose.

Objectives of the Lead Advisory Service (NSW):

  1. Through a synergistic relationship with the Lead Reference Centre, to assist and support the NSW Government initiative to eliminate lead poisoning and protect the environment from lead in NSW.

  2. To increase awareness, motivation, demand and action about the lead problem.

  3. To empower individuals, communities, government and industry to manage their particular lead issues.

  4. To build, maintain and strengthen networks of information and people around lead issues.

  5. To collect and disseminate information about lead.

  6. To be a model for community action for lead and other environmental groups.

  7. To work as a synergistic team to achieve and maintain a credible, efficient and effective organisation.
